About the Department

The Department of Geological Engineering was established as one of the scientific departments at the Faculty of Engineering in Jadu in 2009 (formerly the University of the Western Mountain). The department aims to build qualified personnel to carry out technical and engineering work related to oil, mineral resources, and geotechnical works, as well as to provide information and engineering consultations represented by geological engineering applications.

Our mission is to graduate geologists with high technical and professional skills that enable them to engage in the job market efficiently and contribute to the advancement of the profession, as well as empower those who wish to continue their higher studies.

Our vision is for the Department of Geological Engineering to excel in quality education, scientific research, technology transfer, its application, simplification, and dissemination among the Libyan community and neighboring areas, while taking into account the alignment and optimal utilization of earth resources and environmental conservation, thereby achieving sustainable development.

The Department of Geological Engineering is considered one of the unique specialties as it combines various engineering disciplines such as civil engineering, chemical engineering, mining engineering, petroleum engineering, and natural sciences like mathematics, physics, chemistry, and geology, with the aim of graduating qualified students equipped with diverse scientific skills capable of solving geological problems and addressing future challenges and developments. The main objectives of the department can be summarized as graduating students who possess:

  1. The ability to apply principles of engineering, computer skills, and natural sciences in the fields of geological engineering.
  2. The ability to use engineering techniques in engineering planning and the development of natural sciences, and to provide alternative solutions to engineering problems at a limited cost.
  3. Readiness to assume positions in various fields of geological engineering, supported by a scientific background in geological work, mining, well logs, soil, water quality improvement, land rehabilitation, and more.
  4. The ability to pursue graduate studies and conduct scientific research in the fields of geological engineering and compete with their peers from similar colleges.
  5. The ability to use the necessary engineering methods, skills, and tools to practice the profession of engineering.

Department Head's Speech

The Department of Geological Engineering is one of the most important departments in the College of Engineering. Its mission and objectives stem from the mission and objectives of the college and the university, which aim to serve the community by graduating distinguished geological engineers who possess the highest levels of scientific competence capable of facing the future and meeting the needs of the labor market in the fields of petrophysics. To achieve this mission, the faculty works with a spirit of teamwork and dedication, generously providing continuous support in guiding, directing, and following up with students. I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to them and pray for their health and that their deeds be weighed in their favor.

The Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering is awarded by the Jadu Engineering College at Nalut University in accordance with the conditions stipulated in the Bachelor’s degree granting instructions at Nalut University.
